The Battle of the Port.

Updated: Oct 7, 2022

Port (301 HE)

In 301 HE, the Battle of the Port was fought in Haven City between the Freedom League under Torn and the KG Death Bots and Metal Heads under Cyber Errol during the War for Haven City.

Why did it happen?

After banishing Jak to the Wasteland, Count Veger usurped Ashelin’s position as Governor of Haven City by secretly allying himself with the KG Death Bots. Upon taking command, Veger sent Torn and a contingency of Freedom League soldiers to attack and capture the Port which was controlled by the KG. Although the Port became Freedom League territory, Torn became cut off from Freedom League forces on the Northern Front. In her desperation, Ashelin invited Jak to come back and turn the tide of the war in favour of the Freedom League. Although reluctant at first, he eventually yielded and returned to Haven City via the Precursor Subrails and revealed to Samos and Keira that Veger was responsible for destroying Haven Palace. Jak then travelled via the Sewers into the Port where he encountered Torn at the Naughty Ottsel who had turned the bar into a southern HQ.

Who was involved?

The Freedom League forces at the Port are estimated to have numbered around 300 soldiers. The Freedom League strategy was to stop the KG and Metal Head forces from advancing upon the Naughty Ottsel and killing Torn. The KG and Metal Head forces at the Port are estimated to have numbered 3,000 Death Bots, Spy Bots, Sentinels, Grunts, and Stingers, as well as 5 Blast Bots. The KG and Metal Head's strategy was to overwhelm the Freedom League forces and destroy their southern HQ whereby they could then focus on concentrating their efforts upon the Northern Front.

What happened?

After meeting Torn at the Naughty Ottsel, Jak received word that a force of KG Blast Bots was advancing upon the Naughty Ottsel to destroy it. Jak destroyed the first Blast Bot near the West Tower and after surfing across the Port, he then destroyed the second Blast Bot near the bridge east of the Gun course. Jak then destroyed the final Blast Bot near the entrance to the Industrial Zone, thus ending the first assault on the Port. During the second assault on the Port, Jak and two soldiers repelled a small force of KG Death Bots and Spy Bots in front of the Naughty Ottsel. After meeting up with two soldiers in front of the West Tower, Jak then fought off a large force of Metal Head Grunts and Stingers. In between the Naughty Ottsel and the Gun course, three civilians got caught in the crossfire whereby Jak subsequently defended them from a large force of Death Bots, Spy Bots, Grunts and Stingers. Finally, near the Gun course, Jak and one soldier faced a force of Spy Bots and two Blast Bots. Before they were overwhelmed, Torn sent reinforcements into the area to destroy the Blast Bots, thus stopping the second assault on the Port. In the second assault, the Freedom League sustained 13 casualties during their defence of the Port.

What changed as a result?

The Battle of the Port was a decisive victory for the Freedom League. Although fighting would continue between the Freedom League against the KG and Metal Heads on their respective borders, the Port was never seriously contested by both enemy factions again. Torn and Jak were then able to focus on destroying the defences within the Industrial Zone to help the Freedom League advance further into KG territory. After a brief trip to the Wasteland, Jak returned to find out that Jinx had captured a Blast Bot and rewired its electronics so that it could be remote controlled and fitted with extra explosives capable of destroying the last KG barrier. During the Battle of the Industrial Zone, Jak was able to direct the Blast Bot towards the KG barrier and blow it up, thus reuniting the Northern and Southern Freedom League armies.
