The Battle of the Industrial Zone.

Updated: Jun 9, 2023

Industrial Zone (301 HE)

In 301 HE, the Battle of the Industrial Zone was fought in Haven City between the Freedom League under Torn against the KG Robots under Cyber Errol during the War for Haven City.

Why did it happen?

After taking command of the Freedom League, Count Veger sent Torn and a force of soldiers to retake the Port from KG control. While the Port was successfully retaken, KG Barriers in the Industrial Zone stopped Torn from linking up with the Northern Front, effectively splitting the Freedom League armies in two. When Jak reappeared in Haven City following his banishment to the Wasteland, he met Torn at the Naughty Ottsel, who alerted Jak to the fact that their forces were under increasing pressure from both the Metal Heads and KG Robots. Realizing that the only way to win the war was to reunite the Freedom League’s forces, Torn ordered Jak to lead an assault on the Industrial Zone by destroying the KG defences stationed there.

Who was involved?

The Freedom League forces at the Industrial Zone are estimated to have numbered 2,300 Soldiers, 1 Missile Turret and 1 Blast Bot. Of this number, 300 Soldiers were stationed in the Port, while 2,000 were stationed on the border between the Slums and the Industrial Zone. The Freedom League planned to assault the Industrial Zone from both north and south while Jak destroyed the KG defences in the form of force-field barriers and Sniper Cannons, allowing the Freedom League to link up their forces and counterattack against the KG and Metal Heads. The KG forces at the Industrial Zone are estimated to have numbered 10,000 Death Bots, Spy Bots and Sentinels, along with 4 Blast Bots, 5 Sniper Cannons and 1 Missile Turret. The KG plan was to divide and conquer: While the barriers kept the Freedom League forces separated, the KG army would whittle away at the Freedom League forces in battles of attrition. Because of Cyber Errol’s alliance with the Dark Makers, he had the supplies and eco needed to construct tens of thousands of robots, thereby having a numerical advantage.

What happened?

Using a Missile Turret stationed in the Port, Daxter guided a fully armed torpedo towards the KG Barrier connecting the Port and Industrial Zone and destroyed it, allowing the Freedom League to engage the KG Robots in battle. However, as the Freedom League advanced into the Industrial Zone, they were pinned down by Sniper Cannons positioned along the walkways. Soon after, Jak destroyed the five Sniper Cannons, allowing the Freedom League to manoeuvre better. Later, after engaging the Metal Heads in the Metal Head City and Haven Forest, Jak and Jinx then destroyed four Power Junctions in the Port and Industrial Zone which destroyed the second KG Barrier. Shortly afterwards, Ashelin ordered Jak to hijack an Eco Vehicle being delivered in the Industrial Zone and drive it back to the Naughty Ottsel. While doing this, Jak unintentionally activated a KG Missile Turret guarding the vehicle and was pursued by seven heat-seeking missiles. After driving the Eco Vehicle into the Port, Jak and Torn destroyed the missiles by using decoy beacons stationed throughout the area. After the end of the Battle of the Port, Jinx captured a Blast Bot, altered its electronics and equipped it with more explosives that were powerful enough to destroy the last KG Barrier. After returning from the Wasteland, Jak used a remote control to direct the Blast Bot, supported by Freedom League soldiers, towards the last KG Barrier, destroying it and reuniting the Freedom League’s Northern and Southern Fronts.

What changed as a result?

The Battle of the Industrial Zone was a strategic Freedom League victory. In the aftermath of the destruction of the last KG Barrier, Jak travelled north to Freedom HQ to link up with Ashelin, Samos and the other Freedom League members. After repelling a KG assault at the Battle of New Haven, Ashelin resumed command of the Freedom League and ordered a counterattack against the KG army. While the defences of the KG War Factory were shut down by Jak at the Power Station, the Freedom League launched an offensive to reclaim the Industrial Zone. The KG retaliated by calling on the Metal Heads for assistance, who sent Grunts and Stingers to reinforce the Industrial Zone, while the KG launched a counter-invasion of the Slums and New Haven. These areas would continue to be fought over for the duration of the war.
